Crossbite happens when a top tooth or several top teeth, bite inside the bottom teeth. This usually occurs at the sides and/or front of the mouth. It is important that crossbite be corrected as soon as it is diagnosed. This will prevent other problems from occurring.

Each case of crossbite must be evaluated and treated uniquely. A crossbite that involves just one tooth can be corrected with either a retainer or braces. However, when the crossbite involves several teeth, the dental arch must be enlarged with braces, expanders, or any other intra-oral device.
